The gospels writers record stories of Jesus feeding the hungry. The book of James encourages us to feed the hungry and share the good news. Jesus says that even a cup of cold water given in his name will not go without reward.
Church@Lindsayfield provides a foodbank every Monday evening between 6.15 and 7.45 pm from Greenhills Community Centre (public holidays excluded). We do this as part of the East Kilbride Churches Working Together initiative which is headed up by Calderwood Baptist church. A central food storage area has been leased, where the collected food is stored and packed for distribution by the various Foodbanks running throughout the town.
Food is provided without referral, and is offered in Jesus’ name as a demonstration of his love and care for those in need. The foodbank is a place where we hope people feel welcome. We offer the chance for ‘a blether’ over tea and coffee and try to offer both practical and spiritual support as appropriate.
